Sauber Motorsport is launching a new engineering hub in the UK, what it calls a ‘major step’ in its transition to become the Audi F1 factory team in the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship.

By establishing a new technical centre in the UK, Sauber says it will extend the team’s presence and influence within the global Formula One landscape – much of which is in the ‘Motorsport Valley’ within short reach of the Silverstone race track.

The Technology Centre is hoped to provide the team with access to the world’s largest motorsport expertise and talent pool – the UK is home to most F1 teams and around 25,000 industry professionals – attracting top experts and local engineering talent for the Audi F1 Project.

The location is still to be settled on, with Sauber executives considering locations across ‘Motorsport Valley’, including Bicester, Silverstone, and Milton Keynes, with the goal to have the UK engineering hub operational by summer 2025.

“We are excited to establish our technical centre in the UK to complement our key site in Hinwil [Switzerland], which will continue to lead our main engineering operations and experience the largest team growth,” said Mattia Binotto, COO and CTO of Sauber Motorsport.

“Expanding into the UK allows us to remain close to one of the world’s most dynamic motorsport ecosystems. Our vision is to create a strong, collaborative network across Hinwil and the UK, driving innovation and performance.”

Sauber finished last in the 2024 Constructors Championship, with four points to overall winners McLaren’s 666 points. With much ground to make up on the competition, it’s hoped that a new site can help turbocharge the team in time for the official Audi team entry.
