Stratasys F870 launches for big build volume parts

Stratasys F870 expands production-grade portfolio to accelerate factory-floor manufacturing of large tooling, fixtures and manufacturing aids at scale


Stratasys have announced the launch of its latest flagship Fortus industrial large-format additive manufacturing platform, the F870 FDM.

Designed for industrial manufacturers, automotive OEMs, and aerospace and defence production lines, the system looks to offer a solution for those looking to scale production.

Fast, tool-free print head replacement looks to minimise downtime, while offering three different options – fine-resolution tooling, carbon-fibre composite parts, or high-speed fixture production. Users can swap as needed on the same machine, utilising the F870’s build volume of 1000 x 610 x 610 mm with a fully heated chamber.

From Stratasys’ existing FDM materials range, users have the option of 9 materials at launch, including Nylon 12CF, ASA, ABS and a new FDM ABS Draft (Grey) – with the added bonus of sharing the same high-capacity 4,100 cm³ material spools as the F3300 machine, helping manage long builds and inventory management.

The heavy promotion of Stratasys’ carbon fibre-filled Nylon 12CF gives an idea of where the company sees the F870 being focussed, with the strength, stiffness and durability offered allowing for manufacturing-floor tooling and fixture applications. Additionally, the launch of new ASA military colours material for Fortus systems – with mission-specific colour options for defence applications suggests an expectation of more military parts being produced on the new system.
The launch sees Stratasys look to further address the demand for larger, production-ready systems for end-use parts, with the F870 following on from the F3300 announced in November 2023 and joins the Stratasys FDM family that includes the F900, F770, F450mc, and the F123 series.

“The new platform is geared towards real manufacturing environments, delivering our leading industrial-scale capabilities with increased build capacity, combined with Stratasys’ proven materials and production reliability at a competitive price point,” said Stratasys chief business unit officer Rich Garrity.

The system has already been adopted by the likes of Toyota Production Engineering in Kentucky, USA, and Rivian Automotive in Michigan.
