LightWave 3D 2026 has been launched, with nearly 30 new tools added – many of which suitable for product visualisations and those that stretch further into VFX for marketing campaigns.

The announcement by LightWave 3D marks its sixth major round of upgrades since its acquisition by LightWave Digital in April 2023.

Added for 2026 is Cable Maker, for adding sweeping organic cables, ropes, chains, ribbons and custom tubing along a user-drawn Bezier spline, and PipeMaker for laying out rigid industrial pipework with filleted corners, flanged joints and bolt rings. Both tools are non-destructive — the cable maker tool capable of adding various elements to a product in very little time.

Surface Wrap is an easy tool to use for easier application of labels to products, without needing to create a UV map which also impedes future edits. Surface Wrap can be added as a modifier on the object that will be wrapping around the target object.
New surface pre-sets for LightWave and Octane are available all from within the LightWave 3D interface. New volume pre-sets now included as standard. Updated Renderman and Cell shade pre-sets are included as standard, while more Node pre-sets have been added to boost animations.

Finally, Frames is a new functionality added to all node editors, allowing the visual grouping and commenting on node trees. This provides a way to leave notes for yourself, teach others what areas do, and even a way to link to outside sources for further learning or access to other shared presets.

RiPR2 has also been added as is a next-generation viewport rendering engine for LightWave 3D, delivering interactive path-traced imagery directly within the LightWave layout viewport. Built on Nvidia OptiX and CUDA, RiPR2 brings physically-based global illumination, AI-powered denoising, and real-time material feedback for LightWave users.

“The LightWave 3D 2026 release is the largest upgrade in its history,” said LightWave Digital creative director Andrew Bishop. “We have made these incredibly powerful features really fun and easy to use – they are the kind of features that encourage the user to explore and play and take their animations significantly further.”
