PTC has announced that Onshape AI Advisor is now embedded directly in the CAD software’s design environment, providing real-time guidance as users create.
The latest Onshape update gives every user immediate access to its AI capabilities, which PTC notes as being powered by Amazon Bedrock.
With a redesigned interface, AI Advisor sits within the main workspace, providing users with step-by-step recommendations, troubleshooting features and best practices as they work
The announcement also gave insight into PTC’s plans for AI within Onshape and potentially other software such as Creo, Windchill and Arena. PTC says it is advancing agent workflows in Onshape to enable productivity, to help collaboration via intelligent design agents and to support interaction with model metadata, assist with model troubleshooting and tasks, generate FeatureScript code, and streamline repetitive operations.
In addition, AI-assisted rendering will help accelerate visualisation and design review workflows.
In a future-looking statement, PTC added that Onshape offers a foundation for advanced AI capabilities that set it apart from file-based CAD tools, and it is exploring features such as automated geometry creation, intelligent design optimisation, and toolkits for customers with their own AI initiatives.
“Embedding AI Advisor directly into Onshape marks a new era of design intelligence,” said David Katzman, executive VP and GM of Onshape and Arena, PTC. “We’re not just shipping AI features. We’re shaping an engineering culture where AI is a trusted partner in the design process.
“As the industry’s only cloud-native CAD and PDM platform, Onshape is positioned to lead the industry with integrating AI into product development.”
