ClassCAD.ai brings its CAD model-building MCP to your system

2 0

ClassCAD.ai has been launched as an AI-driven embeddable CAD, that’s a self contained MCP able to build CAD in your Claude/Codex – useful as a collaborative automation layer, a quick conversational prototyping sandbox, or a custom internal tool.

Developed by a AWV Informatik in St. Gallen, Switzerland, The CAD itself, ClassCAD, is billed as a ‘headless nurbs modeller’ that runs native or fully embedded as WebAssembly code (WASM). This kernel supports JS/TS, Python and C++ with the same API.

Unlike traditional CAD it can drive any product or app requiring parametric model recalculations, constrained sketching and STEP models.

When developing with ClassCAD, users have two powerful APIs at their disposal, the Part API – ideal for building parametric, feature-based models – and the Solid API – ideal for direct solid modelling or defining custom feature logic.

AWV Informatik explains that understanding how these two APIs differ, especially in how they handle solids and features, is crucial for building stable and flexible models, but by providing the Solid API in addition to the Part API, it says it is bridging the gap between both philosophies.

The Part API works with features and keeps track of the bodies they make (use if building a structured, parametric part). The Solid API works on the bodies themselves, inside one feature (use if you just want to create a custom part from code without history).

The AI layer is a self contained MCP that requires little CAD modelling experience. The user shows their frontier model – Claude, Astra etc. the ClassCAD.ai site, where it installs the MCP and the agent becomes an expert in CAD, meaning every session you start will have the model context locally with you, on your system.

From typing or speaking what you want to uploading a list of requirements, the software can build you a model that can be exported to your traditional CAD. An example is giving ClassCAD.ai a shopping list of electronics from AliExpress and asked it to build a housing.
