Form Studio 1 Formlabs most affordable resin 3D printer launched along with new skin-safe Alpha resins
Starting at $699, the Form Studio 1 is Formlabs’ cheapest resin printer to date, with the Boston manufacturer promising the new desktop model will deliver professional-grade quality, speed and reliability.
Positioned as a bridge between the every closer hobbyist and professional markets, the Form Studio 1 comes in a series of coloured translucent cases with more than a hint of 1990s Apple Mac – a rare burst of personality in an evermore blacked-out market.
Featuring an all-new print engine based on Formlabs’ Low Force Display (LFD), the printer uses a custom lens array and 28 LEDs to deliver a uniform, highly collimated 6 mW/cm2 light field that cures resin quickly and evenly.
The Form Studio 1 offers 35 μm pixel resolution and finely tuned anti-aliasing to capture sub-pixel detail, while lower peel forces and light-touch supports make for cleaner surfaces and post processing.
With a print build volume of 200 x 125 x 235 mm (5.875 litres), it weighs in on desktops at just over 14 kg, taking up 342 x 315 x 502 mm of space.
Interestingly, Formlabs terms the Form Studio 1 an open material 3D printer when paired with the optional Resin Tank Pro – a more highly durable and chemically resistant tank film that allows printing with a ‘wide range’ of third-party materials.
The Form Studio 1 Resin Tank supports the six new Alpha Resins, True Cast Resin, and Flexible 80A V2, and the Resin Tank Pro supports Tough 1500 Resin V2 and is compatible with 3rd party resins.
For supported materials, automatic dispensing from cartridges is enabled, and PreForm print settings are available. When it comes to compatible materials, automatic dispensing requires the user to adjust the settings.
The Form Studio 1 has been awarded UL Greenguard Gold Certification when used with Formlabs Alpha Resins [see below] and Formlabs VOC Extractor, allowing it to be safely operated in locations without dedicated containment or ventilation equipment, such as small offices and workshops.
Completing most print jobs in less than two hours and featuring a workflow which is suitable for all skill levels.
The design features user-friendly resin cartridges with automatic dispensing and heating, and a flexible build platform with Quick Release Technology that offers simpler part removal.
“Affordability matters, but so does getting great parts without hours of tuning. We want anyone from an engineer to someone exploring a new hobby to spend more time making things and less time figuring out their printer,” said Formlabs CEO Maxim Lobovsky.

The announcement also introduces a Form Studio Wash+Cure station and six new Alpha Resins which are sold as low-odour, long-term contact skin-safe, and are priced at $29 per litre.
Available in Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model and Fast, they meet skin contact regs in accordance with ISO 10993.
Form Studio Wash+Cure is a compact, affordable, all-in-one post-processing unit that handles both washing and curing for prints.
Form Studio 1 is available for order worldwide now, starting at $699, with shipping beginning globally on 6 November 2026.
A Founder’s Edition is available in graphite and in three limited colourways: aqua, teal, and violet until 30 November 2026, or while supplies last.
