Shipbuilding-specific PLM floated by Contact Software and Cadmatic partnership

Contact Software and Cadmatic have entered into an OEM partnership for the shipbuilding industry, aiming to digitise the product lifecycle for shipbuilding projects.

From design and engineering, through prefabrication and production, to maintenance and operation, the move is claimed as the first shipbuilding-specific PLM solutions to reach  the market.

But using the Contact Elements platform, which itself is based on open software, the platform looks to provide the agility needed to flexibly adapt Cadmatic’s marine focussed solutions – including 3D CAD, digital twin and system integration – to new requirements and significantly reduce the complexity of shipbuilding processes.

A key pillar of the Cadmatic PLM solution is establishing a single source of truth for all ship data. Linking CAE, CAD, CAM and PDM systems to improve organisation, management and contextualisation. To benefit modern shipbuilding, the solution also aims to improve modularisation, flexible data management, cyber security while providing efficient support for modern robotised fabrication and operational platforms.

The integration of the Contact Elements apps into the Cadmatic design, engineering and information management portfolio looks to address the requirements of the shipbuilding industry as it looks to further optimise business, engineering and development processes.

“Shipbuilding is a unique industry with unique needs and levels of complexity. Our PLM and digitalisation solution will come with in-built shipbuilding intelligence with the facilitation of data use and management to effectively support the life cycle of complex engineering systems at shipyards. It will reduce the need for consultancy and implementation services that are typically required for general PLM applications on the market,” said Cadmatic CEO Jukka Rantala.

“Contact and Cadmatic are two leading experts whose products and industry experience complement each other perfectly,” added Contact Software CEO Karl Heinz Zachries. “With this partnership, shipbuilding companies worldwide will benefit from future-proof solutions to drive their digital transformation, meet growing market and customer demands, and integrate sustainability into their value creation.”
