Siemens has announced the launch of Xcelerator as a Service (XaaS), its new cloud-based portfolio for its integrated engineering software, services and an application development platform, which it hopes will make its users digital transformation goals a reality.
Many of Siemens Digital Industries recent acquisitions and in-house developments have laid a cloud-native foundation for the move to SaaS – including MindSphere, Mendix, Supplyframe and Teamcenter X, Siemens’ on-cloud PLM software – with Xcelerator as a Service described as the platform on which to deliver that strategy.
Xcelerator, launched in September 2019, combines the full portfolio of Siemens’ software for design, engineering and manufacturing with an expanded Mendix low-code, multi-experience application development platform, including cloud and app services for digital engineering and Internet of Things (IoT) powered by MindSphere, the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens.
Now available on the cloud, XaaS will offer need-based access to familiar Siemens tools and software, as well as the compute resources required, as and when they want them.
“We blurred the boundaries between engineering domains to help our customers speed digital transformation,” said Brenda Discher, SVP strategy and marketing, Siemens Digital Industries Software.
“Xcelerator as a Service will make the Xcelerator portfolio more accessible, enabling manufacturing organisations and their extended value-chains to have a single source of truth and the ability to tap into high-performance computing, at any time, from anywhere and on any device,
“Cloud-based services will remove the need for HPC hardware or in-house IT expertise and allow anyone to carry out compute-intensive tasks via a web browser – whether that’s advanced multi-physics simulation available to all or AI-driven generative engineering.”
