Artec 3D has released two new scanners: the Artec Spider II, a target-free handheld 3D scanner, and the Artec Point 3D scanner, its first target-based laser scanner.

The Spider II features multiple improvements on the previous edition, the Artec Space Spider, including greater depth and field of view, capture speed and resolution.

It uses blue light technology to capture a combination of geometry and texture data, digitising surface details in 0.05 mm resolution.

The Spider II picks up data at a rate of 30 frames per second (FPS), four times as quickly as the Space Spider. At 1,800 cm³, the volume capture zone is twice the size.

Artec claims that the scanner can be set up in seconds.

“Spider II is ideal for capturing anything from priceless artifacts to viral forensic clues – wherever fine detail is required,” said CEO and president Art Yukhin.

Artec Point is designed for metrology use and has an accuracy of 0.02 mm.

It has been verified in an ISPO-certified lab against VDI/VDE 2634 and JJF 1951 standards and captures objects of various finishes and levels of detail, including dark, shiny surfaces and deep holes, at speeds up to 120 FPS.

It features metal casing for suitability in industrial conditions and an ergonomic grip for easier measuring.

Artec Point also features full integration with Artec Studios 3D scanning software and can be paired with other Artec 3D scanners to complete tasks.

“In a crowded metrology market, where many scanners offer similar levels of accuracy, Artec Point distinguishes itself with an unmatched combination of precision, intuitiveness and software integration,” said Yukhin.

“Users can easily achieve accurate results, every time – making it a standout choice for applications like reverse engineering and quality inspection.”
