Shapr3D adds drawings capabilities for the first time with the latest release (scheduled for 8 March) of its iPad focussed 3D direct modelling system.
If you’re not familiar with the Hungarian company, Shapr3D has been developing its eponymously named Shapr3D system for the iPad (and soon, macOS), taking advantage both multi-touch portability of the iPad along with the Apple Pencil.
Shapr3D, said: “With Drawings, Shapr3D now supports the full concept-to-manufacturable-drawing journey, in the same easy and mobile CAD that users around the world fell in love with for creating 3D models.
“This will empower many users, particularly Mechanical Engineers, Industrial Designers, and Design Project Managers to spend less time jumping back and forth between platforms and more time on work that matters, not to mention saving up to thousands of US dollars on extra tools.”
The drawing tools are excellent for a first pass, allowing you to quickly layout a standard orthographic drawing of your data on your iPad, add in key dimensions and text annotations.
As ever, drawings is a rabbit hole of requirements, features and functions but it looks like there’s a good roadmap in place to bring additional items such as centre marks, section/detail views and more, in a future release,
Alongside the update featuring drawings, there’s additional news in that the pricing scheme has been shifted somewhere. The free version remains, offering 3D modelling and two datasets per user with basic export of STL files.
The previous Pro package is then being replaced with a $499/year or $59/month Business package and this will be the full featured toolset. Between the two is a ‘Hobby’ licence, priced at $149/year or $30/month, which comes with STL export for 3D printing and 10 workspaces for personal use only.
If you’re interested or an existing user, it’s worth noting that the new pricing comes into effect on March 8th, and existing Pro users will be upgraded at no extra cost to the business package as long as their account is active.
Prospective users can also take advantage of Shapr3D’s special promotion in the run-up to the new release: anyone purchasing the Pro version between now until March 8 will only pay $249 and will be eligible for the automatic upgrade, too.
