Neural Concept partners with Rescale for ‘3D AI with HPC-aaS’

Neural Concept, a Swiss 3D deep learning tech company focussed on product design, has announced a new partnership with cloud-based high performance computing (HPC) company Rescale.

The arrangement will offer engineers access to ‘highly elastic compute power to train state-of-the art AI models’, which can be used to predict 3D simulation results in seconds on the Neural Concept Shape platform, helping to accelerate engineering outcomes.

Shape leverages the company’s proprietary technology claiming to reduce product development times by up to 75 per cent, speed-up product simulation by 10 times, and improve product characteristics including efficiency, safety, speed, and aerodynamics by up to 30 per cent.

Neural Concept says that it currently has over 60 OEM customers using its Shape platform across aerospace and automotive, including Airbus, the European Space Agency, Bosch and Subaru.

Subaru Corporation recently presented at the Cybernet Seminar in Tokyo, Japan, explaining how it is using Shape to predict the formability of press parts for automobiles, using the software to create a ‘Surrogate AI’ which learns from previous Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and CAD shapes.

Neural Concept expects that methods that combine AI technologies, such as surrogate AI, are expected to further improve quality, shorten development lead time and reduce costs.

“The advantage of utilising a Surrogate AI, as we’ve seen with Honda’s automobile development, is that you can create a model based off of a simulation and then apply this during the design or engineering phase of development,” said Neural Concept CEO Pierre Baqué.

“Surrogate AI obtains its training data by probing the simulation outputs at several intelligently chosen places within the design parameter space. Each of these undergoes a comprehensive simulation to compute the associated simulation outcome.”

The company was founded in 2018 in the AI lab of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne and is backed by venture capital investors including CNB Capital, High-Tech Gruenderfonds and Venture Kick.

Rescale allows users to run commercial, open-source, or home-grown software with HPC proficiency at cloud scale, backed by its support team, with the user’s own license or on demand licenses issued by Rescale.
