Visual Inspect enables CAD data to be transferred to an iPad to help streamline the inspection and design process

In December 2016, Faro announced its acquisition of mwf-technology, an Augmented Reality (AR) solution provider that had created technology to enable the user to view large, complex 3D CAD data on a tablet device and compare that data to real-world conditions.

Faro has now integrated that technology into its latest product family – Visual Inspect, which provides users with an “in hand, on demand” solution to view their CAD data.

The CAD data is stored locally on the iPad through a compressed, mobile format. Any documented problems and errors can then easily be exported into a Microsoft Excel office document.

The two options in the Visual Inspect family include:

  • Visual Inspect : enables intuitive mobile viewing, verification and documentation of complex 3D data
  • Visual Inspect AR : enables complex 3D data to be overlaid and compared to actual data in real time

According to Faro, the Visual Inspect product family can be ready for use via a simple three step process that includes first downloading the iPad application from the Apple Apps store, calibrating the iPad and then activating the application with the calibration file.

“We are thrilled to follow up our purchase of mwf-technology with the integration of its innovative technology into the Faro product portfolio,” stated Simon Raab, Faro’s president and CEO. “We are creating a new paradigm that enables our customers to move beyond doing it the right way most of the time to doing it the best way all the time.”
