A dig amongst what’s new in Ansys 2019 R3 (and there’s a lot) shows up a range of dedicated tools for the automotive industry, including Ansys Autonomy for testing Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) simulation.

Advanced closed-loop scenario simulation, automated driving and control software development, functional safety analysis, and sensor, camera, lidar, and radar simulation are all included in the new module to help avoid the millions of hours of driving or flying otherwise needed.

The addition of Ansys SCADE Vision – powered by Edge Case Research Hologram technology – should also reduce the cost of AV perception software testing, enhance safety and drive high value from AV data.
Updates to Ansys VRXPERIENCE provides innovations in scenario simulation, sensors, sound simulations and VR; the software also now offers SPEOS Live Preview, Ansys’ optical performance simulation for headlights and the like.

Powered by Aras, ANSYS Minerva is also added to the R3 release; a knowledge management product for critical simulation expertise, Minerva looks to improves productivity and business value from existing engineering technology through model-based system engineering, simulation process and data management, lifecycle traceability, process integration, design optimisation and simulation-driven data science capabilities…

Basically: Minerva helps manage the volume of simulation data required for testing complex systems, such as AVs.

Simplified workflows in Ansys’ flagship products can be found in 2019 R3. Ansys Mechanical sees the full integration of Ansys Motion, the addition of Sherlock Automated Design Analysis Software and the new coupled field analysis systems.

A new Mechanical user interface should enables faster model setup and enhances productivity.

With this latest release, Ansys Cloud incorporates on-demand computing within more applications in the Ansys product portfolio. Ansys Maxwell and Q3D Extractor can now submit jobs to secure high-performance compute infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, promising a reduced turnaround time for compute-intensive electromagnetic problems.

The Ansys Discovery family continues to push simulation upfront in the design process with 2019 R3 updates introducing generative design capabilities through the first interactive topology optimisation tool, that Ansys states adds ‘groundbreaking speed and ease-of-use that finds optimal designs in minutes’.

The new release of Granta Materials Data for Simulation provides access to additional material property data, now embedded within Ansys Electronics Desktop as well as Ansys Mechanical.

A refreshed and renamed update to CES Selector, Ansys Granta Selector, is the brand’s entry to become the industry-leading materials selector tool for product design or development.
