Best known for its coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and more recently laser 3D scanning, LK Metrology has now acquired ProCon X-Ray, the specialist German manufacturer of computed tomography (CT) systems.

Founded in 2003 and based in Sarstedt, Germany, ProCon X-Ray develops and manufactures modular CT and X-ray inspection equipment for industrial and scientific applications. Its range includes ‘portable’ bench top models right through to its floor-standing CT-Alpha range that boasts a configurable axis system to give the user flexibility to perform a wide variety of scan trajectories on parts up to 430 x 430mm.

Its systems use high-resolution focus X-ray technology, as well as customisable hardware and software. Used worldwide in the automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical, and materials research sectors, the acquisition by LK Metrology broadens its portfolio of high-precision inspection solutions.

LK Metrology CEO Angelo Muscarella, said: “With the acquisition of ProCon X-Ray, we are strengthening our position as a leading, full-service provider in metrology. Industrial CT imaging perfectly complements our existing CMM and scanning technologies.

“Both companies will work closely together to further develop existing CT systems and deliver new, flexible, integrated metrology solutions of the highest precision to customers worldwide.”

Founded in the UK in 1963, LK Metrology focuses on precision, durability and technological advancement to deliver solutions for demanding applications in the automotive, aerospace, energy, medical and other industries.

Nikolas Westphal, managing director of ProCon X-Ray, added: “We are pleased to become part of the international LK Group and, through its outstanding global presence, to make our market-leading products accessible to a significantly wider customer base.”
