The latest release of materials for the Stratasys J750 include Vero Flex, specifically formulated for eyewear

Stratasys has announced three new materials for its flagship Stratasys J750 full colour, multi-material 3D printer – Agilus30 rubber-like material; Digital ABS Plus ‘engineering-grade’ material, and specifically for eyewear designers, Vero Flex, specifically formulated for eyewear prototyping

“We’ve finally cracked one of our challenges that we’ve had on the PolyJet side for many years, which is bringing a material out which combines strength, robustness and flexibility,” said Stratasys GM EMEA Andy Middleton.

A rigid photopolymer, Vero Flex offers a flexibility ideal for rapid prototyping eyewear, from concept validation to design verification and functional performance, with realism increased thanks to a wide range of colors, textures and materials from opaque to transparent.

Improved performance testing with prototypes means eyewear inparticular can better withstand drop tests, lens-mounting and wearability tests.

“With our Vero Flex material we see a great opportunity,” expressed Middleton. “Initially we’re targeting the eyewear market which is a significant and growing market driven by consumer personalisation and versions of eyewear we can fashion for the medical sector.”

Agilus30 is ideal for prototyping requirements that include repeated flexing and bending, accurately simulating the look, feel and function of seals, gaskets, living hinges, soft-touch parts, over molds and other flexible parts and rubber-like elements.

A durable, flexible PolyJet photopolymer material (Shore A 30), Agilus30 features enhanced tear resistance and improved surface texture for a more realistic rubber-like feel that is important for functional evaluation.

The second newly available material, Digital ABS Plus, enables users to build strong functional prototypes, manufacturing tools, molds (including injection molds), snap-fit parts for high- or low-temperature use, electrical parts, and product casings among others.

It simulates a range of durable production plastics, including standard ABS, with an enhanced toughness and Izod Notched Impact (90 – 115J/m, 1.69 – 2.15 ft lb/inch).

“Since the introduction of the unique Stratasys J750 full-color, multi-material 3D printing solution last year, we are constantly working to expand its capabilities for our customers,” said Zehavit Reisin, VP for the rapid prototyping solutions business unit, Stratasys.

“Adding these materials with advanced performance increases the system’s overall versatility, enabling designers and engineers to more accurately evaluate the viability of their designs well before production.”
