We’d like to think of it as a payday for featuring in last month’s DEVELOP3D Product Design Gallery…
However it’s most likely down to the extremely innovative work of Freedom Of Creation (FOC) that they’ve been snapped up by rapid prototyping (RP) giant 3D Systems.
Having featured its RP’d iPhone cases, we’re big fans of the Amsterdam-based team’s collection of work, and will be watching with interest as it becomes part of the creepily-monikered “3D Systems family”.
“We are pleased to welcome the entire FOC team, under the leadership of Michiel Dekkers and the creative direction of Janne Kyttanen, to our growing 3D Systems family,” bellowed Abe Reichental, president and chief executive officer of 3D Systems.
“FOC’s reputation, commercial design portfolio and talented team significantly enhance our quest to democratise access and accelerate adoption of compelling and affordable 3D content-to-print solutions for consumers and professionals alike.”
FOC will continue to operate from its Amsterdam lair with its rich content libraries and design capabilities for the benefit of its expanding users and developer community.
Janne Kyttanen, founder of FOC, said: “We are excited about the commercial, game changing potential of this powerful combination.”
We’re pretty sure he’s more excited than this soundbite suggests, and can’t wait to see what FOC will be able to do with some big-name funding behind it.
