ASTM International is hosting its first European Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Workshop on 16 September at CETIM in Senlis, France.

The one-day event is billed as offering a holistic understanding of and comprehensive look into the additive manufacturing industry and value chain, and will be co-chaired by Dr. Nima Shamsaei from Auburn University, Dr. Mohsen Seifi from ASTM International, and Dr.-Ing. Christian Seidel from Fraunhofer.

Dr. Seidel, said: “This is a unique opportunity to learn from world class experts coming from both sides of the Atlantic. Attendees will learn about the latest global standardisation efforts, new technology developments and much more.”
During the day, attendees will have opportunities to dive into topics including AM feedstock, design, processing, post-processing, nondestructive inspection, qualification, safety, and certification.

The workshop will also cover how the newly formed AM Center of Excellence (CoE) is employing a combined approach of R&D and targeted standards development to fill gaps in standardisation and workforce development.

This workshop is the second offering of the new AM CoE Education & Workforce Development (E&WD) Program, which will provide training opportunities for various levels of the AM workforce. Participants will receive a Verification of Completion, building toward a longer-term comprehensive Training Certificate.

Joining supporting organizations from the first workshop — America Makes, Innovate UK, CECIMO, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) — are EASA and Fraunhofer Institute.
