Xometry aims to become ‘Uber of manufacturing’ with new hires and strategy

Xometry’s on-demand part manufacturing platform continues its drive to becoming the most efficient way to produce prototype parts with an upgraded strategy and addition of former Geomagic president and COO Tom Kurke.

Appointed as chief strategy officer to drive the company’s nationwide partner network and an expansion to a new office in North Carolina, Tom Kurke brings more than 20 years of experience in the 3D and technical software space, having held positions at Geomagic, 3D Systems and Bentley Systems among others.

It’s online instant pricing is available via its website and through a dedicated SolidWorks add-on, which provides pricing, lead times and manufacturability feedback for a wide range of processes, including CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication and urethane casting.
Xometry allows manufacturing partners to join the network at no cost with the added promise of there being no bidding for jobs.

These facilities receive notifications about about orders that fit their specific capabilities and can choose to accept based on their capacity. The company sees this model in a similar light to Uber’s innovative approach to liberating the taxi market.
