Electromechanical device manufacturer Ametek has announced the acquisition of Virtek Vision International, a manufacturer of laser-based projection and inspection systems.
Virtek will join Ametek as part of its Electronic Instruments Group (EIG), which focuses on analytical, monitoring, testing, calibrating and display instrumentation.
It specialises in the development and manufacturing of 3D laser projectors, smart cameras and quality control inspection systems.
Its machine vision solutions provide customers with virtual laser guided measurement and inspection capabilities to assist with automating complex assembly processes and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
These solutions are applied across a range of aerospace, defence and industrial applications.
“We are excited to welcome Virtek to the Ametek family. Virtek is an outstanding acquisition and an excellent strategic fit with our Creaform business,” said David Zapico, AMETEK Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
“Their strong technology capabilities nicely complement Creaform’s enabling a broader suite of automated 3D scanning and inspection capabilities supported by advanced software and algorithms.”
Ametek acquired Canadian company Creaform in 2013. It specialises in 3D scanning, reverse engineering, quality control, non-destructive testing, product development and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO).
Creaform customers represent industries including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation, consumer products and research and education.
Headquartered in Waterloo, Canada, Virtek was founded in 1986 and its annual sales are approximately $40 million.
It has offices in 26 countries and is present in over 85.
Ametek has acquired over 90 businesses since 2000, most notably acquiring seven in 2018. Most of its acquisition prices remain undisclosed.
