Formlabs has added the new Form Cure, a fast curing solution, and Tough 1500 Resin, an improved toughness functional resin, to its SLA ecosystem.
The Form Cure post-cures general purpose resin parts in under a minute, and engineering resins in under 15 minutes, by heating to 60 degrees celsius in one minute.
It accelerates the process of curing SLA 3D printed parts, with Formlabs claiming that Form Cure saves up to eight times the amount of time it takes to use it.
The new release is the second generation of Form Cure.
Tough 1500 Resin offers ten times higher fracture toughness, three times higher Gardner impact strength and an elongation at break of over 150%.
Its improved toughness makes its properties similar to polypropylene, and can be used for manufacturing “parts that do not crack, fracture, or shatter, and better maintain material properties over time.”
“For 3D printing to compete with injection moulding it needs to take a massive step in terms of material properties,” said Formlabs CEO Max Lobovsky.
“We have made a massive step change that brings us significantly closer to having 3D printed parts compete with injection moulded parts in terms of toughness and longevity, but with much more design freedom and production flexibility,” he said of Tough 1500 Resin.
New features in Dashboard, Formlabs’s print management software, and PreForm, its printing software, have also been announced.
Dashboard now includes Group Queues for automated print assignment and Cloud Slicing for faster processing.
PreForm has been updated to include seven language options, model grouping, Bulk Model Import for improving organisation, and “Add to a Running Job” for in-progress print jobs.
