Sebastian Conran – Director of Sebastian Conran Associates and Designer in Residence, University of Sheffield, Science Faculty
Our current focus is on cross-generational robotic devices in the home that do useful things like putting the kids toys away, laying the table, doing the ironing as well as helping getting dressed.
This, and the design of beautiful products for people experiencing later life issues, are our principal concerns for the future. In 25 years time when I am 80 how will we all cope?
Well, design for our future selves now is one answer. Stylistically this means a neutral elegance combined with a pragmatic playfulness, which will enhance our experience of daily life.
The emphasis is on thoughtful design where substance takes precedence over superficial style.
