A new UK university is aiming to reduce the country’s engineering skills gap, as well as tackling its gender imbalance when it opens in September 2017.
The New Model in Technology and Engineering (NMITE) college is being advised by US universities Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, on structure, governance and administration.
Based in Hereford, students will have degrees awarded by the its partner universities of Bristol and Warwick until it gains full awarding powers.
The UK’s first newly built university in nearly 30 years is also setting itself targets to have half its 5,000 students and teaching staff comprised of women.
NMITE will model itself on the Olin College of Engineering in the US city of Boston, a college known for its balance of sexes across its courses.
