Canadian metrology firm LMI Technologies is making its KScan3D software for low cost hardware free, after scrapping its original $299 download price.
The software is designed with consumer 3D scanners in mind, such as the Microsoft Xbox Kinect and Asus Xtion, and a PC running Windows OS, with files exportable as .obj and .stl.
KScan3D 1.2 software is available at no charge on a self-service, online basis only, and LMI states that all future versions will also be made available at no cost.
“We are excited to offer KScan3D to the public free of charge to enable greater awareness on the use of 3D data,” said Chi Ho Ng, director of product management at LMI Technologies.
“Customers can then upgrade to higher quality scanners offered by LMI based on a similar workflow to solve more demanding applications requiring sub-millimeter resolution.”
