AMD has boosted the performance in Radeon ProRender, the company’s no cost physically-based rendering engine. The updated Radeon ProRender plug-in for SolidWorks is said to provide up to 14 percent than the previous version, while the Blender version is up to 29 percent faster, the 3ds Max version up to 35 percent faster and the Maya version up to 28 percent faster.

AMD has also added some new features to the OpenCL rendering engine that is optimised for GPUs, but also runs on CPUs. The Radeon ProRender add-in for SolidWorks, for example, now includes physically accurate sun and sky simulation and also works with SolidWorks 2018.
Support for IES lighting has also been added to the Radeon ProRender plug-ins for 3ds Max, Maya for Windows, and Blender.

Based on real-world lighting files, IES lighting and the ability to load the IES file-format lets designers use the exact scattering and fall-offs of real-world lighting. According to AMD, all you have to do is find your lighting manufacturer, find an IES file, attach the IES file to the light, and render.

For the 3ds max plug-in AMD has also implemented a PBR shader material, which is designed to closely match Unreal Engine’s PBR materials. Support is planned soon for the Maya and Blender plug-ins.

Meanwhile, Radeon ProRender is now integrated into the new MAXON Cinema 4D Release 19 (R19), and there is planned integration for Foundry’s Modo in 2018.
