FARO Technologies and Creaform, both businesses of Ametek Inc., have announced their combining to create FARO Creaform, which it says will reframe how industries approach metrology and reality capture.
FARO has more than 40 years of 3D measurement and reality capture experience, and Creaform’s handheld metrology innovation was founded in 2002, with the move by Amtek a play to better unify both product line-ups.
FARO Creaform says it aims to make metrology more mobile, usable and transformative, giving manufacturers better outcomes, a superior experience and a single point of contact for the complete portfolio. As a business unit, it says it is set to offer rigorous dimensional measurement solutions providing practical certainty so manufacturing and maintenance teams can act decisively
Operating in parallel, FARO’s reality capture business segment will become FARO Insight, focussed on delivering reality capture solutions transforming the physical world. Alongside Virtek Vision – Amtek’s laser-based projection, positioning and AI-powered inspection tools – FARO Insight remain in the AEC sphere to enable capture, pointcloud conversion and data management and sharing for digital‑twin workflows.
“FARO Creaform is more than a consolidation. By combining the strength of two leaders, we’re opening possibilities that will empower industries to move from hindsight to foresight,” explained business unit manager Fanny Truchon, adding that the new business aims to become the undisputed leader in portable metrology.
“FARO Insight’s approach is simple: we want to digitise the world. Our hardware and software solutions reduce ambiguity to help track building progress, document changes, digitize crime scenes, structures, mines, forests, and landscapes to provide insights customers can build on,” added Dietmar Wennemer, business unit manager at FARO Insight and Virtek Vision.
