When Prodways picked up established lost wax casting 3D printer company Solidscape from Stratasys midway through last year, few were thinking we’d see a new machine arrive so early, let alone in a new sector.
The first SLA 3D printer under the Solidscape brand, will hit the market at the beginning of Q2 2019, and is set to maintain the company’s close ties to jewellery design with the new SolidscapeDL model’s castable resins.
The machine will use a DLP engine, developed from Prodways’ MOVINGLight production scale machine series; and resins developed by Deltamed, Prodways’ UV light curing materials arm, and has more than a few similarities with Prodways’ ProMaker LD3 DLP 3D Printer launched in June 2018.
There is little more information available until the formal launch at the Vicenzaoro tradeshow in Vicenza, Italy, on January 18.
Prodways has mentioned growing its impact in the jewellery sector as a key vertical, stating: “Today, around 10 per cent of global jewellery production uses direct 3D printing, mainly in the high-end jewellery segment. The objective of Solidscape is to increase this percentage to 50 per cent within five years.”
