We’re big fans of helping out others, even more so if it involves design, so we love Fixperts and its goal to mobilise the social resource of fixing stuff to make people’s lives better.
Since launching in 2012, the social network has helped in over 200 cases of problem solving with design (and that’s only the ones captured in mini films), and it is set to go a step further by launching its inaugural Fixperts Residency and business partnership programme.
Joining Benchmark – a furniture company, but in reality, a group of skilled ninja craftsmen that blend wood and metal into ridiculously lovely forms on many different scales – the winner of the Fixpert Residency prize will spend a year at Benchmark aligned to a master craftsman, and will apply his imagination and skill to solve problems through making.
Benchmark will make available to the Fixperts Resident its 40,000 sq ft workshops for timber milling, carpentry, veneering, spray shops, metalworking, and in-house upholstery, and its on site design studio.
Being able to draw from these resources, the creative resident will have access to a combination of traditional crafts skills and new technologies as they take on their problem solving challenges.
It is a paid placement and incredible opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of the business, as well as engaging with fixing as valuable creative and social resource.
Those wishing to enter can apply from 19 May, here.
Timetable for the selection process:
19 May – Open invitation for submissions
3 July – Submissions deadline
21 July- Interviews and announcement of FixResident
1 September – Fixperts Residency at Benchmark begins
