PTC and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have entered into an agreement to accelerate the growth of PTC’s Onshape CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) solution.

The collaboration will focus on advancing cloud-native Onshape product enhancements, customer adoption programmes and supporting artificial intelligence initiatives.

PTC says that the agreement’s goals are focused on helping product designers and engineers create new products faster and more efficiently, including the Onshape Discovery Program, which allows users to try Onshape Professional at no cost for up to six months.

The pair will also work on Onshape AI Advisor, which looks to aids product design by cataloguing the Onshape resource library, allowing users to type in a question and receive the correct result from the library.

Other features will include CAD and PDM conversion tools, which will expand Onshape’s capabilities, resulting in the Onshape intelligent data migration toolsets preserving the parametric features and sketch information of CAD models during translation.

Lastly, Onshape Government will help companies to comply with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Authorisation Management Program requirements, which will benefit manufacturers who have strict security requirements.

As parts of its three-week release cycles, Onshape has added features including Render Studio, PCB Studio, Onshape Simulation, new surfacing, modelling analysis and mixed modelling capabilities.

“PTC’s Onshape team and AWS will work together to expand technical and go-to-market collaboration to support the market evolution of engineering design tools moving to the cloud,” said Chris Grusz, managing director of technology partnerships at AWS.

“Together, we will evolve PTC’s Onshape cloud-native CAD and PDM solution, supported by technology powered by AWS, and bring new AI/ML-powered capabilities and value propositions in a scalable and cost-effective manner to businesses around the world and the next generation user base in education.”

“Our collaboration with AWS outlines some key priorities that will help us reach the hands of more designers and engineers, accelerate the delivery of some important product enhancements, and demonstrate how AI can assist in the product development process,” added David Katzman, GM of PTC Onshape and Arena.
